More BDSM on screen, yay! 🙂
Suitable for all genders and sexual orientations (particularly mine).
Yes, my first blog post of the year HAD TO BE about this fantastic movie.
There is a movie about BDSM in the cinema, starring the hottie from True Blood. I simply could not miss it.
The movie is Pillion, Starring Alexander Skarsgård (as Ray) and Harry Melling (as Colin). I just loved the chemistry between them on screen, they were tender, harsh, and overall amazing.
I sometimes feel like Hollywood treats BDSM as a trend and a curiosity. Similarly to Babygirl, which I wrote about it a while ago, Movie review: Babygirl (glass of milk anyone?), this also centers around an alternative D/s dynamic to the one presented by the famous book that made BDSM mainstream (you know I am talking about 50 Shades of Grey, right?).
I have to admit, I loved this one way more than Babygirl. It portrayed a dynamic that combined tenderness and cruelty in one neat movie. But, similarly to Babygirl, this also lacked any context on consent and negotiations. I guess it’s not the sexy thing everyone wants to see on screen.
Whatever the case, it was shot beautifully, and it makes you feel a lot of what Ray and Colin feel. Also, it gave me a much better picture of the feelings that the sub goes through in the dynamic… Being a top myself I sometimes struggle to understand why the sub feels a certain way, and what feelings are stirring into them. This showed me devotion and care and love in forms that are outside the stereotypical vanilla lives. Just delightful.
This review by The Guardian can give you more insights on what’s going on: ‘BDSM on screen used to just mean a gimp in the basement’: the kink community’s verdict on Pillion’.
Trailer below as usual!
