TV review: Euphoria – love it or hate it?

A TV show about Gen Z

Suitable for hardcore audience

Over the past few years, Euphoria shocked its audience with its take on Gen Z. The show draw a spotlight onto these high school student friends and their relations to identity, trauma, sex, abuse, narcotics, sex work, and much more. More on that here: ‘It triggered mass panic!’ – is Euphoria the most shocking teen show ever?

Euphoria Season 1

It came out in 2019, and caused shock and horror but also curiosity and tragedy across its viewers. Personally, the best part of the show was the strength and friendship that tied Rue (played by Zendaya) to Jules (played by Hunter Schafer). To me, it felt like the two characters were tied together by invisible cables made of steel and candy floss.

The show also showed other key characters and their journeys. Some of my fav are:

  • Kat Hernandez (played by Barbie Ferreira), who ends up doing cam work with a FinDom-focus a side hustle
  • Cassie (played by Sydney Sweeney) and how her “people-pleaser” behaviour and desperate need for male validation ends up sacrificing her self-worth in exchange for toxic relationships, and
  • Nate’s (Jacob Elordi) father Cal (played by the late McSteamy, sorry I mean Eric Dane) and how his marriage was build on lies, repression, trauma, and toxicity masculinity (for more on that, please read TV review and Empathy Crisis: Adolescence).

It’s honestly a rollercoaster of drama, and I recommend bingeing it.

What is cam work?

There are many websites for watching and selling clips, such as LoyalFans, iWantClips, and Clips4Sale.

Euphoria Season 2

This one came out in 2022, due to various covid-19 related delays. My personal highlight, of course, was Lexi. She turned out to be the character I loved the most. She was the observer, the commentator. A little bit like me, with my blog. I see things, I think about them, and sometimes I say what I think out loud and sometimes I just put it in words on the web. Other characters I loved were:

  • Once again Cal (Eric Dane) makes top three of my fav characters, and how he has a total meltdown.. I won’t say more as I don’t want to give any spoilers.
  • Nate also gets a great character’s arc, and although he tries to redeem himself, he still plays the asshole, again won’t share more, you need to watch it!
  • Elliot, the last one of my fav characters this season, is literally the friend we all have, who simply doesn’t catch you when you are about to fall.

A great season, although not as ‘shocking’ as season one, this was also very bingeable.

Euphoria Season 3

Season 3, came out this year, a little later than expected due to disagreement on productions. I have to admit that I did not expect most of the turns and twists episode after episode. I was half impressed and half shocked the whole time. It took a lot of things to extreme, and most of scenarios are unrealistic, but that’s what it makes it unprecedented. In short? Enjoy the show!
